Shaver Hall is a reimagined landmark: a culinary and cultural destination in the heart of Midtown New York. Set within the former Lord & Taylor flagship, a celebrated 1914 Italian Renaissance Revival icon, it carries forward the building’s legacy of grand entrances, carved limestone, and Fifth Avenue retail history.
Named for Dorothy Shaver, the visionary who made retail a cultural and social experience, Shaver Hall brings people together through food, entertainment, and community.
Shaver Hall is housed within the former Lord & Taylor flagship, a celebrated New York City landmark that first opened in 1914. The 11-story building was designed by Starrett & van Vleck in the Italian Renaissance Revival style and remains one of Fifth Avenue’s most distinguished architectural buildings.
Defined by its carved limestone façade, metalwork, grand entrances, and famed display windows, the building once symbolized the golden age of New York retail.
Today, those historic bones remain central to the experience, grounding Shaver Hall in an experience that only New York can deliver.
Shaver Hall is named in honor of Dorothy Shaver, the visionary president of retail icon Lord & Taylor and one of the most influential figures in American retail history. Leading the brand from the 1940s through the 1950s, Shaver was a trailblazer, championing emerging talent, elevating the “American Look,” and redefining retail as a cultural and social experience.
Her belief in innovation continues to inspire Shaver Hall today. Like our muse, Shaver Hall exists to bring people together, and create experiences that feel both thoughtful and ahead of their time.
